DCM Citation: “For continuous gallantry and devotion to duty at Cormicy on 27th May, 1918. He brought fresh ammunition and rations up to the guns in the front line under heavy high explosive and gas shelling. At Beaumont Hamel on 22nd August, when the pack mule train was heavily bombed and the animals stampeded, he succeeded in getting them together and successfully delivering his rations, setting a fine example to his comrades.” (LG 11.03.20)
