Ashton, Isaac – Corporal

Of Henrietta Street, Bridge Street, Pendlebury, Lancashire. DCM Citation: “For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when, the enemy having penetrated our lines, he organised and led a bombing squad, which captured this party of the enemy. His courageous action undoubtedly saved the situation at a critical moment.” (LG 03.09.18)

Atkinson, William – Private

Son of William and Eleanor Atkinson, of 2, Alice Street, Pendlebury, Lancashire; husband of Sarah Jane Atkinson, of 7, Williamson’s Buildings, Irlams-O’-th’-Height, Lancashire. Enlisted January 1915.

Barnes, Harry – Private

Of 374, Bolton Road, Pendlebury, Lancashire. His brother James was a regular in the Royal Field Artillery.

Barnes, Herbert – Lance Corporal

Husband of Mrs. Barnes, of 10, Lottie Street, Pendlebury, Lancashire. Died whilst Prisoner of War in Germany. Elder brother Thomas served in the Lancashire Fusiliers.

Brett, James Albert – Private

Husband of Mrs. Brett, of 32, Bridge Street, Pendlebury, Lancashire. Two brothers also served, Corporal Robert Brett in the King’s Liverpool Regiment, and Private Tom Brett, Lancashire Fusiliers, wounded 01 July 1916 at The Somme.

Connolly, James – Private

Son of James and Margaret Connolly, of Pendlebury; husband of Ellen Taylor (formerly Connolly), of 15, Alice Street, Pendlebury, Lancashire. Formerly 16th Battalion.
