Son of William and Jane Bithell, of 49, Edward Street, Moses Gate, Farnworth, Lancashire. Formerly 5th/6th Bn., Scottish Rifles. Eldest of four soldier sons.

Brown, William Herbert (Bert) –

Son of Arthur and Jane Brown, of the One Horse Shoe Hotel, 102, Market Street, Farnworth, Lancashire, and formerly of Tippings Arms, 362, Blackburn Road, Bolton, Lancashire. Suffered severe gunshot wound to the left leg on 12/04/1918.

Catterall, Harry –

Son of Joseph and Sarah Jane Catterall, of 10, Blindsill Road, New Bury, Farnworth, Lancashire. Enlisted January 1915. In Scotland. Formerly Private 18308, 8th Bn., Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Caught aged 24 as an absentee from Glencorse since 11/03/1918 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 12/03/1918 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/29). Medal Card states “Deserter 04/01/1919” and shows Cameronians.

Dickinson, Edward –

Son of Thomas and Mary Dickinson, of 12, Lister Street, Brindle Heath, Pendleton, Lancashire; husband of Sabina Dickinson, of 132, Hall Lane, Moses Gate, Farnworth, Lancashire.

Hardman, Ellis –

Son of James and Mary Hardman, of 31, Church Street, Ainsworth, Lancashire. Formerly Private 3304, 7th Bn., Scottish Rifles.

Haydock, Tom –

Fourth son of Joseph and Sarah Haydock (nee Howarth), of Glasgow, Lanarkshire, and formerly of Farnworth, Lancashire. Enlisted in 5th Camerons September 1914. Served at the Dardanelles and in Palestine and France.

Holden, William Henry –

Son of William Henry and Elizabeth Holden, of 4, Gate Street, Bolton, Lancashire, and formerly of 41, Lena Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Already a soldier when war broke out and went to France in August 1914. Captured prisoner of war 25/03/1918.

Hopewell, Bertram –

Son of Christopher M. and Eleanor Hopewell, of 10, Grange Road, St. Anne’s-on-the-Sea, Lancashire. His brother Charles Hopewell also fell. Formerly 5046, Royal Fusiliers.

Hopewell, Thomas –

Son of Thomas and Alice Hopewell, of 414, Lytham Road, Blackpool, Lancashire. Enlisted in 1914. Formerly 5047, Royal Fusiliers.

Hough, William –

Of 152, Markland Hill Lane, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted November 1915.
