Conlan, Fred Brooks –

Son of Sergeant James Cecil Conlan and Sarah Conlan, of 62, St. George’s Road, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted aged 17 in the Royal Flying Corps, and transferred to Royal Air Force on formation 01/04/1918. In Buckinghamshire in July 1918.

Conlan, Thomas (Tom) –

Son of Sergeant James Cecil Conlan and Sarah Conlan, of 62, St. George’s Road, Bolton, Lancashire. An old boy of the Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Posted missing 20/07/1918 when his aircraft was brought down whilst flying over the German lines, and subsequently confirmed captured prisoner of war.

Coope, Nathaniel Nicholson –

Son of Samuel Coope, district valuer for the Bolton district under the Land Valuation Department, of 65, Bolton Road, Farnworth, Lancashire. An old boy of St. John’s School, Farnworth and the Bolton Church Institute. Formerly Private, Manchester Regiment. Gazetted to Second Lieutenant, 4th/5th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Appointed temporary Lieutenant July 1916. Wounded and missing, and captured prisoner of war 24/09/1918, repatriated 03/12/1918

Son of James and Srah Jane Corden (nee Hough), of 5, Holly Bank, Entwistle, Lancashire. Formerly Royal Flying Corps.

Cotton, Ernest –

Son of Joseph and Martha Cotton, of 2, Sandeford, Brownlow Road, Horwich, Lancashire. An old boy of Rivington and Blackrod Grammar School. Formerly Royal Flying Corps. Reported missing in BJ&G following an aerial engagement on 29/07/1918 NOTE: CWGC incorrectly records death date as 25/07/1918.

Critchley, Albert –

Son of Edward and Betsy Critchley, of 82, Commission Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted August 1915. Formerly Lance Corporal 8516, 19th Bn., Royal Fusiliers. Commissioned 25/09/1916. Joined Royal Flying Corps and transferred to RAF 01/04/1918.

Crompton, Ernest Ewart –

Son of William Ewart Crompton and Mary Alice Crompton, of Verdun, Province of Quebec, Canada. Graduate of the Montreal Technical School.

Crompton, Richard –

Husband of Ada Crompton, of 9, Cook Street, Pendleton, Lancashire. Service number recorded as 125531 on CWGC and as 123351 on Royal Air Force papers. Died from pneumonia at Blandford Auxiliary Hospital.

Crompton, Algernon Price –

Son of Thomas Booth and Lucy Ann Crompton, of 61, New Lane, Patricroft, Lancashire. Formerly Private 2745, 8th Bn., Manchester Regiment. Joined Royal Flying Corps as Airman 2nd Class 28/06/1916 and transferred to Royal Air Force 01/04/1918.

Son of George Crowther, of 11, Park Street, Bolton, Lancashire; husband of Winifred Crowther (nee Shaw). Formerly second lieutenant, Royal Flying Corps. Transferred to Royal Air Force on formation 01/04/1918.

Crowther, Lionel Percy –

Son of Mr. George Crowther, headmaster of St. Matthew’s School, Bolton, Lancashire. An old boy of Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Previous service Private 26500, 10th Bn., South Lancashire Regiment, discharged 26/07/1916 due to sickness. Whilst of Halton Camp, Buckinghamshire appeared aged 35 before Bolton Magistrates on 03/06/1918 accused of having fraudulently obtained ?2 from Benjamin Green on 17 & 18/10/1917 by deception. Remanded to 06/06/1918 from which the case was sent to the Quarter Sessions. Convicted and sentenced to 6 months imprisonment.
