Formerly of Farnworth, Lancashire, and later of 2, Tottington Road, Harwood, Turton, Lancashire. Formerly Lance Corporal 15881, 1st Bn., West Yorkshire Regiment. Commissioned 25/09/1917 to Second Lieutenant, 3rd Bn., South Lancashire Regiment. Attached Garrison Bn., Royal Irish Rifles. Regular correspondent to the local newspaper writing about his experiences.

Hulme, Robert –

Son of the late Edward Hulme and of Mary Ellen Williams (formerly Hulme), of 20, Green Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Mobilised as a reservist 05/08/1914. Taken prisoner of war at Mons in October 1914 and held at the Munster Lager, where he was working in a coal pit.

Jackson, Solomon –

Youngest son of Mr. John Jackson, of the Unicorn Inn, Kearsley, Lancashire; husband of Mrs. Jackson, of 18, Peel Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Reported wounded and captured prisoner of war March 1918.

Jackson, Fred –

Of 47, Bentley Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Caught aged 17 as an absentee from Oswestry since 25/03/1918 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 28/03/1918 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/29).

Jenkins, Alfred –

Of 1, Ward’s Court, Independent Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted May 1915. Caught aged 40 as an absentee from Thornton since 09/08/1915 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 19/08/1915 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/26).

Johnson, John William –

Son of William and Alice Johnson, of 213, Church Street, Westhoughton, Lancashire. Enlisted September 1914. Wounded in the arm on 07/06/1917 at Messines. Reported absent since 23/12/1917 and subsequently found drowned in a shell hole or pond near Abeele reportedly after being wounded and falling in the pit. However, documentation in military records indicate death due to suicide. Recorded on all military records as William Johnson.
