Son of Richard and Annie Atkinson, of 242, Manchester Road East, Little Hulton, Lancashire. An old boy of the Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Formerly employed by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company at Hunt’s Bank, Manchester. Enlisted April 1917 into the Training Reserve Bn. Formerly Royal Fusiliers.

Balshaw, Walter –

Eldest son of Florence Elizabeth Amelia Balshaw (nee Shelleross), of Ivy Dene, 571, Chorley Old Road, Bolton, Lancashire, and the late Walter Balshaw (Solicitor). An old boy of the Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Formerly a Second Lieutenant in the Officer Training Corps. Reported missing since 20/10/1914 at La Bassee and believed prisoner of war in Germany, later reported killed.

Barham, John Stanley –

Son of David and Ada Jane Barham, of 89, Manchester Road, Walkden, Lancashire. An old boy of Bolton Municipal Secondary School (as Stanley Barham in “Supera” school magazine). Enlisted April 1915. Died of gunshot wounds in both thighs and the right arm at a Canadian Auxiliary Clearing Station in France.

Boswell, Fred –

Son of John William Boswell, of 1037, Ethel Street, Verdun, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. An old boy of Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Dangerously wounded, subsequently died, gunshot wound left arm. Died at No.7 Casualty Clearing Station.

Bradbury, Norman Offley –

Youngest son of James and Anne Bradbury, of 29, Bromwich Street, Bolton, Lancashire. An old boy of Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Formerly a member of the staff of the Bolton Education Offices. Previous service of four years in the Royal Army Medical Corps. Died at No.58 Casualty Clearing Station from syncope.

E., and of Mary Bromiley, of “Beech Hurst”, 194, Chorley New Road, Bolton, Lancashire; husband of Gertrude Holden Bromiley, of “Oakcroft”, 70, Albert Road West, Bolton, Lancashire. An old boy of Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Attached 391 Small Bore Ammunition Company / 391st Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. Killed in the train in France whilst returning home on leave from Italy.

Second son of Reuben Brotherton, of 10, Hastings Road, Bolton, Lancashire, and formerly of 31, Queensgate, Bolton, Lancashire. An old boy of Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Previously in the employ of Messrs. Tillotson and Son, Ltd. Formerly Sergeant 45574, Motor Machine Gun Brigade., Canadian Machine Gun Corps. Commissioned 1916. During the operations in the vicinity of Passchendale, on the night of 29/10/1917, this officer was leading his Battery to a new position, when he was instantly killed by enemy shell fire. Step-brother of Tom Lever.

Brown, John (Jack) –

Son of George and M. A. Brown, of 28, Darley Grove, Farnworth, Lancashire. An old boy of Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Enlisted September 1914. Formerly 20th Hussars and West Yorkshire Regiment. before attending cadet school and obtaining commission. Reported missing and presumed drowned when the transport Transylvania was torpedoed off the Italian coast.

Claxton, Benjamin –

Son of Reverend William Henry and Rose Eliza Claxton, of 46, Hampton Road, Forest Gate, London. Father was former pastor of the New Jerusalem Church, Bolton Road, Kearsley, Lancashire. An old boy of the Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Formerly 13/51681, Training Reserve. Died at Bangour Military Hospital, Edinburgh, of pneumonia following being shot in the lung on 21/08/1918.
