Lyon, Henry –

Husband of Martha Annie Lyon, of 113, Deane Church Lane, Bolton, Lancashire, and formerly of 151, Deane Church Lane, Bolton, Lancashire. Police Sergeant 23 (formerly Police Constable 40) of the Bolton Borough Police since 04/03/1897. Served in the South African Campaign from 27/12/1899 to 26/06/1902. Lent to the Military Authorities as a Drill Instructor from 07/09/1914 until he enlisted for War Service. (Bolton Archives: ABJ/22/63). Resumed his police duties from 19/03/1920.

Lythgoe, Albert –

Son of Mrs. Mary Lythgoe, of Bolton, Lancashire; husband of Teresa Griffiths (formerly Lythgoe), of 14, Whitby Street, Daubhill, Bolton, Lancashire. Reported as Lance Corporal in BC and BJ&G. Missing since 26/10/1917 and subsequently presumed killed.

MacDonald, William (Willie) –

Son of James and Mary Elizabeth MacDonald, of 24, Bowen Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Joined the Border Regiment in October 1913, prior to which he had served two years in the 5th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Previously wounded in the arm. Recorded as Lance Corporal in BJ&G.

Husband of Mrs. Mahon, of 92, Platt Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly employed as a wireman at the General Post Office, Silverwell Street, Bolton, Lancashire. A reservist called up on 04/08/1914.

Makant, Angus Virtue –

Second son of John William Makant, J.P., and Florence Makant, of Gilnow Lodge, Bolton, Lancashire. Educated at Harrow and Clare College, Cambridge. B.A. (Cantab.). Well known as a cricketer and footballer. Gazetted second lieutenant 29/01/1910. Promoted Captain 23/12/1914. Shot and killed by a German sniper.
