Son of Patrick and Sarah Jane McDonald, of 2, Clark’s Entry, Churchgate, Bolton, Lancashire; husband of Mary McDonald, of 20, Well Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly on the staff of Bolton Corporation Gas Department.

McDonald, Francis –

Son of Michael McDonald, of 198, Willows Lane, Bolton, Lancashire, and the late Lillie McDonald. A member of the Bolton Corps of the St. John Ambulance Brigade.

McDonna, Thomas Rathbone –

Son of Thomas Bernard McDonna and Mary Jane McDonna, of 22, Church Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted December 1914. Listed on SDGW as Tom McDonna.

McDonough, Alfred –

Husband of Jessie McDonough, of 66, Teal Street, Great Lever, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted June 1911. Died from pneumonia. Two brothers also served.

Son of Mr. Walter William McDowell, confectioner of 200, Eskrick Street, Bolton, Lancashire, and Mary Ann McDowell (nee Pape). An old boy of Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Enlisted September 1914.

Of 16, Garden Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted June / July 1915.

McEwan, William E –

Son of Margaret Ellen McEwan, of Bolton, Lancashire, and the late Hiram McEwan; husband of Susan Minnie McEwan, of 373, Wentworth Street South, Mount Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

McFarland, Albert –

Son of Andrew and Nancy Jane McFarland (nee Fogg); husband of Elizabeth Alice McFarland, of 3, Sunninghill Street, Daubhill, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly Private 3447, 1st/5th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Wounded 22/09/1917 by gunshot to the shoulder. Often recorded as McFARLANE.

McGarry, James –

Son of Mr. and Mrs. McGarry, of 22, Back Haydock Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted April 1918.

McGawley, John –

Son of John and Catherine McGawley, of Bolton, Lancashire; husband of Celia Bridget McGawley (nee Kelly), of 32, Basil Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted December 1914.

Husband of Mrs. McGlynn, of 1, Hill Lane, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly employed by Magee, Marshall, and Co.

McGowan, James –

Son of Mr. J. McGovern, of 50, Back Foundry Street, Bolton, Lancashire.

McGrath, Edward –

Son of Mrs. McGrath, of 4, Milo Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly employed at the Horwich Loco Works. Reported missing since 26/08/1916 and subsequently presumed killed.

McGreaves, Joseph –

Husband of Florence Croft (formerly McGreaves), of 67, Coe Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly of 64, Back John Taylor Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly 4640 / 21556, 3rd Bn., Border Regiment. Caught on multiple occasions as a deserter / absentee and appeared before Bolton Magistrates to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/26). Died by drowning en-route to an Eastern theatre of war.

McGreavy, John –

Son of John and Annetta McGreavy, of 3, Crowther Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly 1683, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Reported wounded and missing and subsequently presumed killed.

McGuinness, Charles –

Husband of Jane McGuiness (nee McCann), of 31, Orm Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted April 1915. Died at the Oaklands Military Hospital in Chelmsford, Essex. Home service only.
