McGuire, Thomas –

Brother of Mr. J. E. McGuire, of 23, Cemetery Road, Kearsley, Lancashire. Lodged with Mrs. Worrall at 29-31 Rawsthorne Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly 38095, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Contracted Typhus and died in hospital in Alexandria. St. Gregory’s R.C. Church, Farnworth.

McIntyre, James Falconer –

Son of James McIntyre and Helen Kirkland Falconer McIntyre, of 137, Darley Street, Brownlow Fold, Bolton, Lancashire.

McKenna, Joseph –

Son of John P. McKenna and Ann McKenna. Had served 21 years in the Army. One of four soldier brothers, two of whom laid down their lives.

McKenzie, John –

Son of Malcolm and Agnes McKenzie, of Moor Cottage, Longtown, Cumberland. Police Constable 61 of the Bolton County Borough Police from 30/07/1914 until enlistment for war service. (Bolton Archives: ABJ/22/230). Died from wounds at Frensham Military Hospital, near Farnham, Surrey.

McKie, Peter –

Son of Peter and Mary Ann McKie, of 63, Holland Street, Astley Bridge, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted January 1915. Reported missing and subsequently presumed killed.

McLarty, Alexander –

Eldest son of Angus and Fanny McLarty, of 8, Birmingham Street, Bolton, Lancashire. A bugler, he served six years in India, with his Uncle, Daniel, of the same Regiment.

McLarty, Archibald –

Son of Angus and Fanny McLarty, of 8, Birmingham Street, Bolton, Lancashire; husband of Martha Alice McLarty / Pasquill, of 81, Mortfield Lane, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly of 7, Watt Street, Bolton, Lancashire. A son served in the Lancashire Fusiliers.

McLeod, Ernest –

Adopted son of Edward and Mary Ann Crook, of 11, Pole Street, Tonge Moor, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly Private 3899, 5th Bn., Seaforth Highlanders. Died at Military Hospital, Cromarty, and interred at Harwood 11/11/1918. Surname also recorded as McLOUD on some military records.

McLinden, Henry –

Son of Patrick and Agnes McLinden, of 20, Moncrieffe Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted September 1914 in the Manchester Regiment and went to France in October 1915. He was wounded 01/07/1916 during the Somme offensive. After recovering he was transferred to the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, and was again wounded. Rejoined the Manchesters in 1917, he was attached to the headquarters of the Bn. as a despatch runner, and it was whilst carrying an important despatch he met his death. Prior to enlisting he was employed in the District Goods Superintendent’s Office, Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company’s Station, Bolton. His name is on the Roll of Honour at St. Gregory’s, Farnworth, Lancashire. Listed as Lancashire Fusiliers in the Bolton County Borough Roll of Honour.

McLoughlin, John –

Son of James and Sarah McLoughlin (nee Grimes); cousin of Mrs. Thomasson, of 24, Ralph Street, Bolton, Lancashire.

McNally, John –

Husband of Mrs. McNally, of 67, Plover Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Completed 18 years’ service with the Lancashire Fusiliers, including time in the Reserve, just two weeks before the outbreak of war. Served in the South African Campaign.

McNulty, Joseph –

Husband of Mrs. McNulty, of 71, Argyle Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Served 13 years in the Army prior to the Great War, including service in the South African Campaign. Enlisted August 1915.

Meadowcroft, George –

Son of John and Margaret Alice Meadowcroft, of Bolton, Lancashire; husband of Mary Jane Davies (formerly Meadowcroft), of 20, Oak Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Later of 43, Oak Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly Stoker SS/110395 (Dev.). Body not recovered for burial. Recorded as Stephen on Bolton Roll of Honour.

Mee, Edward –

Son of Walter W. C. and Frances E. Mee, of 27, Henry Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted September 1914. Formerly employed as a clerk in the Tramways Office. Reported missing since 21/05/1916, and subsequently presumed killed.
