Son of John and Mary Melia, of 118, Mount Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted October 1915 as Private 7475, 5th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Mistakenly reported killed in action as Private 4192 with the King’s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment on 14/08/1916, but subsequently confirmed wounded in the leg and at No.26 General Hospital.
Melling, Walter –
Son of Elizabeth Melling, of King’s Head Hotel, Junction Road, Deane, Bolton, Lancashire, and the late James Melling. Enlisted January 1916. Died from gunshot wounds whilst working as a stretcher bearer in the act of rescuing some chums who were in difficulties.

AN old boy of the Ridgways Endowed School. Formerly 238015, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Hospitalised at Manchester in November 1917 dangerously with trench fever and inflammation of the kidneys.
