Pilling, William –

Son of Albert and Nancy Pilling, of 23, Holly Street, Astley Bridge, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted November 1915. Attached 2nd Bn., Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Died in hospital at Rouen from Influenza and Bronchial Pneumonia.

Pilling, Giles –

Eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Pilling, of 21, Belle Vue Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted January 1915.

Pinch, Bertie –

Son of Thomas and Ellen Pinch, of Dent, Yorkshire; husband of Joanna Pinch (nee Jost), of Weaving Terrace, Dent, Yorkshire, and formerly of 2, Latham Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Previously a tram conductor in Bolton. Served as Police Constable 86 of the Bolton County Borough Police from 07/08/1913 until enlistment for military service. (Bolton Archives: ABJ/22/225). Killed by a shell splinter. His brother Vincent, of Dent, Yorkshire, served as Gunner 74415, Royal Garrison Artillery and survived.

Pinder, William Harold –

Husband of Margaret Ellen Pinder (formerly Greenhalgh), of 10, Ernest Street, Park Road, Bolton, Lancashire. Previously served as a reservist with the Lancashire Fusiliers for 22 years, and served in the South African Campaign. Formerly 13/4558, Training Reserve Bn.

Place, Robert –

Son of Mary Place, of 18, Leinster Street, Farnworth, Lancashire, and the late Andrew Place; husband of Mary Place, of Grove Cottage, Nob End, Little Lever, Lancashire. Formerly 4601, Monmouthshire Regiment. Died in a London hospital from wounds received in France.

Platt, Frederick William –

Son of William and Mary Platt, of 26, Mortfield Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly 565, York and Lancaster Regiment. Spent six years serving in India. Interred in Bolton (Heaton) Cemetery, 21/11/1918.

Son of Mr. and Mrs. Platt, of 157, Belmont Road, Sharples, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted 1914. Two brothers also served with the Colours.

Husband of Olive Platt, of 26, Melrose Avenue, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly employed in the grocery department for the Bolton Co-operative Society, Ivy Road branch. Enlisted September 1916. Formerly 6989, Yorkshire Regiment. Died from shell wounds to the head and left arm.

Platt, Wallace –

Husband of Elizabeth Platt, of 106, Hatfield Road, Bolton, Lancashire. Previously served four years as a territorial in the Royal Army Medical Corps. Died from injuries received accidentally during bombing practice. A brother served with the Royal Field Artillery.

Pollitt, Frank –

Son of Rifleman H. Pollitt, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, and Emma Pollitt, of 618, Blackburn Road, Bolton, Lancashire; husband of Mrs. A. E. Pollittt, of 2, Crumpsall Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly worked as a Conductor on the Bolton Corporation Tramways. Enlisted June 1915.

Pollitt, James –

Son of Pte. and Mrs. Pollitt, of 24, Clough Street, Bolton, Lancashire; nephew of Corporal T. Smith, who died on the same day. Enlisted August 1915. His father also served with the colours.
