Formerly Royal Army Medical Corps. Commissioned into 15th Bn., Northumberland Fusiliers. Reported missing since 11/04/1917 and subsequently presumed killed.

Claydon, Arthur –

Son of Arthur and Mary Claydon, of 77, Arkwright Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Died when the transport SS Transylvania was torpedoed in the Gulf of Genoa by German U-Boat U-63.

Enlisted aged 17 at Bolton 09/04/1915 in the South Lancashire Regiment, but discharged 21/05/1915 as not likely to become an efficient soldier. Formerly 4854, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Killed at Passchendaele Ridge. Entry of death in Baptism register of St. Barnabas church, Bolton, baptised 03/10/1897.

Formerly Corporal 5239, 4th/5th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment; formerly Lance Sergeant 241521, 4th/5th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Promoted from Lance Corporal to Corporal 16/08/1915. Commissioned 30/01/1918, King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. Killed by a shell.
