Son of Henry and Rachel Belsey (nee Brown), of 26, Emmanuel Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted in the Militia at Bury as part of the Lancashire Fusiliers in early 1904, before joining the regiment as a Regular in August 1904. Served in India.

Formerly of 43, Victoria Street, Moses Gate, Farnworth, Lancashire; 10, Gleave Street, Bolton, Lancashire; and 14, Back All Saints Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly 3rd Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Caught on multiple occasions as an absentee from his units and appeared each time before Bolton Magistrates to be sent back to his units under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/26 & JBO/1/27). Formerly employed as a tram conductor by the Bolton Corporation. Enlisted September 1914. Formerly 16117, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Wounded 07/07/1916 just below the right knee.

Husband of Mrs. M. V. Bentley, of “Bentley Hall Farm”, Walshaw, Bury, Lancashire. Formerly of Sheepgate Farm, Walshaw, Lancashire. A member of the St. John Ambulance Brigade. Enlisted April 1915.

Bentley, Fred –

Son of Margaret Bentley, of 316, Taylor’s Terrace, Blackburn Road, Egerton, Turton, Lancashire, and the late William Bentley. Formerly employed by the Bolton Corporation Gas Committee. Attached II Corps. Died of shrapnel wounds to the head and neck. On the Roll of Honour of Walmsley Unitarian Church, and memorial in chapel graveyard.

Son of Frederick and Elizabeth E. Bentley, of Egerton, Turton, Lancashire; husband of Alice Bentley, of 19, Water Street, Egerton, Turton, Lancashire. Formerly employed by Messrs. Tillotson and Son, Ltd., as a despatch clerk. Killed by a shell bursting on his dugout at Longueval.

Son of Mr. Beresford, of 2, Ward’s Court, Folds Road, Bolton, Lancashire, and the late Mrs. Beresford. Formerly worked for the Horwich Loco Works. Wounded 26/05/1915 by gunshot in the body. His widowed father served in the Lancashire Fusiliers.

Berry, George Arthur –

Son of Thomas and Bertha Berry, of Bolton, Lancashire; husband of Florence Berry, of 7, Oak Street, Deane Road, Bolton, Lancashire. Wounded in the right elbow. Wounded in the left thigh and left shoulder. Died in the King George Hospital in London from concussion of the brain due to injuries received whilst carrying ammunition to the trenches at Ypres in October.
