Son of Thomas and Sarah Ann Wharton, of 22, Sharman Street, Burnden Park, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly employed by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company in the engine shed at Crescent Road, Bolton. Enlisted May 1915. Formerly Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Two brothers also served.
