Youngest son of Mr. Claude Angwin of the Lostock Industrial School, and of Mrs. Harriet Angwin, of 342, Deane Church Lane, Deane, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly employed as a compositor for Messrs. Tillotson and Son. Enlisted January 1915.

Husband of Florrie Angwin, of 107, Clarence Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Attached 1st/2nd Bn., Monmouthshire Regiment.

Anstead, Charles Arthur –

Husband of Mrs. Anstead, of 43, Tyndall Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly a painter with the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company. Died from a severe gunshot wound.

Appleby, Sidney Derrick –

Son of James, former Postmaster of Bolton, and Miriam Appleby, of The Bungalow, Haywood Road, Mapperley, Nottingham. An old boy of Bolton Grammar School. Worked for Bradshaw, Gass and Hope. Enlisted February 1915. Formerly Public School’s Bn., Royal Fusiliers. Commissioned 1916. Attached 8th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.

Eldest son of William and Mary Alice Armstrong, of 375, Plodder Lane, Farnworth, Lancashire, formerly of 28, Lever Edge Lane, Great Lever, Bolton, Lancashire. An old boy of the Bolton Municipal Secondary School (initials listed as J O in “Supera” school magazine).

Armstrong, Thomas –

Husband of Mrs. E. M. Armstrong, of 22, Bentinck Street, Sutton Road, St. Helens, Lancashire; brother of Mrs. Darcy, of 60, Snowden Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Stationed at Bury at outbreak of war, having served 13 years, seven in India.

Of 12, Ross Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly Private 7759, 1st/5th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.

Ashcroft, Walter –

Son of Mrs. Ashcroft, of 22, Gorses Mount, Darcy Lever, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted May 1915. One of three brothers in service, one in the Canadians, and one in the Royal Army Medical Corps.

Ashmore, William –

Husband of Sarah Jane Ashmore, of 9, Rock Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted September 1914. Killed instantaneously whilst on sentry duty when struck by a shell.

Ashton, Henry –

Only son of Henry and Ellen Ashton, of 55, Gibbon Street, Bolton, Lancashire, and formerly of 20, Pike Road, Bolton, Lancashire. A member of the Bolton Corps of the St. John Ambulance Brigade. Formerly employed for 14 years on the clerical staff of the Corporation Gas Offices. Died of dysentery at Salonika.

Ashton, James –

Son of Mary Jane Ashton, of 64, Cellini Street, Brownlow Fold, Bolton, Lancashire, and the late George Brindle Ashton. Formerly Private 6775, 4th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Invalided from Mesopotamia to Stationary Hospital at Poona, India, suffering enteric fever. Formerly commemorated on the Kirkee 1914-18 Memorial, India, on Face 7.

Son of Caleb and Martha Ashworth; husband of Mary Jane Ashworth, of 19, Nebo Street, Daubhill, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly Private 4215, 4th Bn., King’s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.

Ashworth, John Stanley –

Son of Peter and Maria Ashworth, of 89, School Hill, Bolton, Lancashire, formerly of 28, Halifax Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Wounded July 1916 at High Wood and November 1916 at Beaumont Hamel. Killed by sniper on the Menin Road.

Son of Sarah A. Cooke (formerly Ashworth), of 623, Wright Street, Bolton, Lancashire, and the late William Ashworth. Enlisted August 1914.

Only son of James and Ann Ashworth, of 18, Talbot Street, Astley Bridge, Bolton, Lancashire. An old boy of the Bolton Church Institute (1905). Enlisted August 1914. Formerly Gunner 1307, Royal Field Artillery.

Ashworth, William –

Son of Mrs. Ashworth, of 18, Darley Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly employed at Horwich Loco Works. Taken prisoner of war of the Germans 30/11/1917 at Cambrai and died from wounds the following February. His father and brother both also served in the Army.
