Enlisted in August 1897 in the Lancashire Fusiliers at Bury, having served in the 2nd Volunteer Bn. of the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment before that. Transferred 01/09/1897 to the Border Regiment. Served in the Boer War and in India and Burma. Died at Netley Hospital from septic poisoning from wounds received at Gallipoli. Interred at Farnworth Cemetery on 14/08/1916.

An old boy of the Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Formerly 13/51681, Training Reserve. Died at Bangour Military Hospital, Edinburgh, of pneumonia following being shot in the lung on 21/08/1918.
