Brother-in-Law of Private Peter Whalley, 2nd Bn., Lancashire Fusiliers. A former regular soldier on the reserve at the outbreak of war. Reported missing since 27/10/1914 and subsequently presumed killed.

Son of the late Samuel John Hodgkiss, builder, of 2, Castle Street, Farnworth, Lancashire, and the late Matilda Hodgkiss; husband of Sarah Ann Hodgkiss (nee Wolfendale), of 170, Egerton Street, Moses Gate, Farnworth, Lancashire. An old boy of the Bolton Church Institute. Sniper and Lewis Gunner. Gazetted to Second Lieutenant 30/01/1918. Died at 38th Casualty Clearing Station, France. Attached 2nd/4th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.

Son of William and Mary Ellen Hodgkiss, of 148, Buckley Lane, Farnworth, Lancashire. Formerly 291279, Monmouthshire Regiment. Reported missing and subsequently presumed killed. Memorial in Farnworth (St. James) Churchyard.

Son of the late William James Holden and Catherine Hughes (formerly Holden, nee Hope), of 169, Ellesmere Street, Farnworth, Lancashire; husband of the late Ann Holden (nee Watson), of 157, Ellesemere Street, Farnworth, Lancashire.

Hollows, James –

Son of Mr. and Mrs. Hollows, of 65, Price Street, Moses Gate, Farnworth, Lancashire. Previously worked as a signalman for the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company. Enlisted December 1916.

Holt, Thomas –

Husband of Rachel Holt, of 248, Waterloo Road, South Shore, Blackpool, Lancashire, formerly of 20, Luton Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Died in hospital from gas poisoning.

Holt, Thomas Entwistle –

Son of William and Mary Holt, of Bolton, Lancashire; husband of Lily R. A. Holt, of 10, Duke Street, Frome, Somerset. Formerly of 186, Lorne Street, Moses Gate, Farnworth, Lancashire. Joined the Chatham Division of the Royal Marine Light Infantry 25/03/1905 having formerly been an engine-cleaner for the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company at Burnden. Killed when Cruiser HMS Natal blew up at Cromarty due to faulty cordite. Body not recovered for burial.

Holt, Albert –

Son of James and Mary Holt, of 10, Baker Street, Kearsley, Lancashire. Enlisted October 1915.

Holt, Frank –

Son of James and Mary Holt, of 10, Baker Street, Kearsley, Lancashire. Formerly Driver, Royal Field Artillery. In 1915 he was training mules when one stood on his foot causing injuries which eventially led to his death. Home service only. Interred in Kearsley (St. Stephen) Churchyard on his 23rd birthday, 22/11/1917. Brothers Albert and James both served in the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.

Holt, Albert –

Husband of Mrs. Holt, of 27, Dobhill Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Wounded on the Somme and treated at Whalley hospital until 03/01/1918 then returned to France. Killed instantaneously by the bursting of a shell.

Of 27, Elizabeth Street, Moses Gate, Farnworth, Lancashire. Previously wounded in February 1917.

Holt, James –

Son of James and Mary Holt, of 10, Baker Street, Kearsley, Lancashire. Enlisted August 1915.

Hopkinson, William –

Son of Mary Ann Hopkinson, of 4, Spring Street, Moses Gate, Farnworth, Lancashire. Formerly 1st/4th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Severely wounded 10/01/1917 in a raid on German trenches at Ypres, and died of these wounds at 13th General Hospital, France.
