Ranoe, Charles James –

Son of John Charles and Elizabeth Ellen Ranoe (nee Lindsay), of 14, Mount Pleasant Street, Horwich, Lancashire. Formerly an apprentice fitter at the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company’s Horwich Loco Works. Formerly Private 1630, 1st/4th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Wounded accidentally by gunshot to right hand 11/07/1915. NOTE: Served as JAMES Ranoe.

Of 8, Gas Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Caught as an absentee from Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, since 07/06/1915 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 08/06/1915 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/26)

Husband of Mary Robinson, of 43, St. John Street, Horwich, Lancashire. Worked as a postman in Horwich, Lancashire. Served in the South African Campaign.

Roebuck, William Harold –

Son of William and Grace Roebuck, of 334, Chorley New Road, Horwich, Lancashire, and formerly of 312, Chorley New Road, and 42, Richmond Street, Horwich, Lancashire. Formerly employed by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company. Qualified as a pilot at Military School, Ruislip 26/04/1917 in a Maurice Farman biplane. Graded 1st Class Pilot 05/06/1917. Reported missing 11/09/1917 and subsequently presumed killed.

Son of William J. and Mary A. Roskelly, of 9, The Crescent, Northwich, Cheshire, later of 1, Crown Lane, Horwich, Lancashire. Reported missing subsequently presumed killed.

Son of Alexander and Annie Ross, of 36, Fellowes Road, Hampstead, London, and Kingussie, Inverness-shire. An old boy of Rivington and Blackrod Grammar School.

Son of William Sale, of 19, Mary Street East, Horwich, Lancashire; husband of Caroline Sale, of 3, Montcliff, Horwich, Lancashire.

Savage, Frank –

Son of James P. and Annie Savage, 170, Crown Lane, Horwich, Lancashire. An old boy of Rivington and Blackrod Grammar School. Enlisted September 1915 as Private in the London Regiment. Musketry and bomb instructor. Commissoned 25/10/1916.

Schofield, Percival Mariner –

Husband of Elizabeth Schofield, of 11, Canada Street, Horwich, Lancashire, and formerly of 60, Brownlow Road, Horwich, Lancashire. Died at the Brook War Hospital, Woolwich from pneumonia following influenza.

Scholfield, Richard Denham –

Son of Emma Denham Scholfield, of “Ingarsley”, Warwick Road, Hale, Cheshire, and the late Frank Scholfield. An old boy of Rivington and Blackrod Grammar School. Worked for Salford Corporation Town Clerics Department.
