Son of Richard and Margaret Ellen Abbott, of 70, Brownlow Road, Horwich, Lancashire. Formerly employed as a clerk at Horwich Loco Works.

Ainsworth, Herbert –

Son of John Thomas and Alice Ainsworth, of 2, Daisyfield, Chorley New Road, Horwich, Lancashire. Formerly employed at the Horwich Loco Works, and later at Armstrong Whitworth’s in Newcastle. Enlisted August 1914. Formerly 40344, Royal Engineers. Sometimes recorded as ‘Herbert A. Ainsworth’.

Alderman, Walter James –

Son of Walter J. and Mary Alderman, of 11, Old Lane, Bottom-o’th’-Moor, Horwich, Lancashire. Enlisted January 1915. Formerly Private 19658, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Reported wounded and missing since 07/07/1916 and subsequently presumed dead.

Son of John H and Betty Aldred, of Horwich, Lancashire. Also commemorated on the Kirkee 1914-1918 Memorial, India.

Allan, Ernest –

Son of Henry and Rebecca Allan, of 154, Chorley New Road, Horwich, Lancashire. Body not recovered for burial. A member of the Spa Road Hebrew Congregation.

Alsop, Thomas –

Son of Nicholas and Elizabeth Ellen Alsop, of 82, Wright Street, Horwich, Lancashire. Died of wounds in the head received from a trench mortar. Also recorded as ALLSOPP in BJ&G.

Anderson, David –

Son of John Anderson, former postmaster of Horwich at 51, Winter Hey Lane, Horwich, Lancashire, and of Anna Anderson, both later of Sunnyside, Papcastle, Cockermouth, Cumberland. Of 51, Winter Hey Lane, Horwich, Lancashire. Formerly 23287, Grenadier Guards. Wounded at Givenchy 13/09/1916 by shrapnel.

Son of Thomas the Hannah Jane Archer, of 8, Mill Lane, Horwich, Lancashire. Formerly employed as a moulder at the Horwich Loco Works. Enlisted May 1915. Died of pneumonia in France.

Roebuck, William Harold –

Son of William and Grace Roebuck, of 334, Chorley New Road, Horwich, Lancashire, and formerly of 312, Chorley New Road, and 42, Richmond Street, Horwich, Lancashire. Formerly employed by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company. Qualified as a pilot at Military School, Ruislip 26/04/1917 in a Maurice Farman biplane. Graded 1st Class Pilot 05/06/1917. Reported missing 11/09/1917 and subsequently presumed killed.
