Fox, James –

Son of James William and the late Mary J. Fox (nee Lindley), of 14, Ann Street, Kearsley, Lancashire, and stepson of Margaret Ritchie Fox (nee Jeffrey). An old boy of the Hollands School. Enlisted July 1915. A scout and a sniper. Killed instantaneously by a shell.

Son of Joseph Fray, of 9, Jackson’s Buildings, Kearsley, Lancashire. An old boy of the Hollands School.

Fray, Matthew –

Son of Lincoln and Clara Fray, of 45, Greendale Road, Port Sublight, Birkenhead, Cheshire. Native of Kearsley, Lancashire. An old boy of the Hollands School. A Farnworth man who went down with HMS Viknor, an armed merchant cruiser, off the north coast of Ireland. Body not recovered for burial.

Son of Richard and Jane Goodram, of 137, Grosvenor Street, Kearsley, Lancashire, and formerly of 13, Grove Street, Kearsley, Lancashire. Enlisted March 1917.

Husband of Annie Green, of 58, Lord Street, Kearsley, Lancashire. Enlisted January 1917. Badly wounded in the left leg below the knee by a large shell fragment.

Son of Councillor Joseph and Mrs. Betty Grundy, of 330, Bolton Road, Kearsley, Lancashire. An old boy of the Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Previously wounded twice. Died from influenza and pneumonia. Memorial in Kearsley (St. Stephen) Churchyard.

Halliwell, Albert –

Son of Elizabeth Marshall (formerly Halliwell), of 2, Eldon Street, Clay Cross, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, and the late John Halliwell, and formerly of 26, Bent Street, Kearsley, Lancashire. Killed at Messines Ridge.

Hamblett, Joseph –

Son of Mr. Samuel Hamblett, of 6, St. Stephen’s Street, Kearsley, Lancashire. Formerly Northumberland Fusiliers. Reported missing since 26/09/1915 and subsequently presumed to have been killed.

Hardman, James –

Son of Mr. and Mrs. John Robert Hardman, of 28, Manchester Road, Kearsley, Lancashire; husband of Louisa Hardman, of 423, Bolton Road, Kearsley, Lancashire. Enlisted January 1915. Took ill shortly after marriage ceremony whilst on special leave and died from pneumonia.

Son of Mrs. Haworth, of 41, Bent Spur Road, Kearsley, Lancashire; husband of Ethel Annie Haworth, of 1, Barnes Terrace, Kearsley, Lancashire, and formerly of Market Street, Stoneclough, Lancashire. Formerly employed by the Ringley and Farnworth Co-Operative Societies at Stoneclough and Higher Kearsley. Enlisted 1915. Posted as missing since 12/10/1917 and subsequently presumed killed. Surname reported as HOWARTH in F&WJ.

Heywood, Joseph –

Son of Joseph and Sarah Jane Heywood, of 4, High Stile Fold, Kearsley, Lancashire. Relatives resided at 17, High Stile Fold, Kearsley, Lancashire. Formerly a collier at Trencherbone Colliery. Enlisted July 1917. Was on his way home from Mesopotamia when he took ill, left at hospital in Salonika, where he died from pneumonia.

Higson, Harry –

Son of Mr W. and Elizabeth Higson, of 16, Church Street, Kearsley, Lancashire. Served in Gallipoli, Salonika and France.
