Edwards, Thomas James –

Son of Jane Maria Edwards, of 4, Panton Street, Horwich, Lancashire. Of 24, Hawksley Street, Horwich, Lancashire. Formerly a blacksmith at the Horwich Loco Works. Wounded 15/06/1915 at Festubert.

Farrington, Orlando –

Husband of Alice Ann Robinson (formerly Farrington, nee Hodgkinson), of 9, Burton Street, Folds Road, Bolton, Lancashire, and formerly of 8 & 17, Trafalgar Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly a moulder at the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company’s Horwich Loco Works. Enlisted February 1915.

Finch, John Harold –

Brother of Jane Smith, of 47, Catherine Street East, Horwich, Lancashire. Formerly employed at the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company’s Horwich Loco Works. Reported missing since 10/07/1917 and subsequently confirmed killed. NOTE: Birth registered as John Harold, but all other records simply read as Harold.

Fletcher, Harold –

Son of John and Eliza Alice Fletcher, of 6, Darley Avenue, Farnworth, Lancashire. Formerly employed at the Hunt’s Bank, Manchester offices of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company. Enlisted May 1915. Memorial in Radcliffe Parish Churchyard.

Foster, Roland –

Son of the late Thomas Foster, and of Ann Catherine Foster (nee Jones), of 23, Southern Street, Brownlow Fold, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly a crane driver in the employ of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company at Horwich Loco Works. His twin brother John was wounded in service.

Foulkes, George –

Son of George Foulkes; husband of Lucy Foulkes (nee Hassall), of 23, New Brunswick Street, Horwich, Lancashire. Formerly employed at Horwich Loco Works. Mobilised with the Army Reserve in August 1914, and took part in the retreat at Mons.

Gastall, Leonard Whitehead –

Son of George and Mary Elizabeth Gastall, of Crown Lane, Horwich, Lancashire; husband of Annie Gastall (nee Simmons), of 27, Brownlow Road, Horwich, Lancashire. An old boy of Rivington and Blackrod Grammar School. Formerly an apprentice at Horwich Loco Works. Wounded on 06/10/1916.

Gledhill, Richard –

Brother of William Gledhill, of 338, Bridgeman Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly employed at Horwich Loco Works.

Gollins, Herbert –

Husband of Frances Gollins (nee Russell), of 123, Weston Street, Great Lever, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly 1st Bn., King’s Shropshire Light Infantry. Caught as an absentee from 3rd Bn., King’s Shropshire Light Infantry at Pembroke Dock since 20/09/1916 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 25/09/1916 to be sent back to his unit under escort. Son of Emma Susan Gooch (nee Astwood), of 7b, Bickenhall Mansions, Gloucester Place, London, Middlesex, and the late Charles Fulthorpe Gooch. Formerly employed by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company. Enlisted August 1914. Formerly Sapper 557, Royal Engineers.

Gornall, Richard Mason –

Son of the late William and Elizabeth Gornall (nee Charnley), of 46, Brougham Street, Bolton, Lancashire; husband of Lydia Gornall (nee Swift), of 16, Fraser Street, Brownlow Fold, Bolton, Lancashire, and formerly of 18, Virgil Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted September 1914. Wounded in the neck July 1916. Formerly employed at the Horwich Loco Works.

Graham, Francis (Frank) –

Son of Thomas and Elizabeth Graham, of 6, Hill Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly employed by the parcels department of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company. Enlisted Augsut 1914. One of three sons lost.

Green, Richard –

Son of William and Mary Green, of 142, Manchester Road, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly employed by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company in the Manchester Road goods yard. Formerly G/72553, Royal Fusiliers.

Greenhalgh, John Robert –

Son of Robert and Annie Greenhalgh, of 22, Bamber Street, Bolton, Lancashire; husband of Ellen Hobson (formerly Greenhalgh, nee Gregory), of 46, Shaw Street, Bolton, Lancashire, and formerly of 70, Rigby Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly employed by the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Company as a porter at Bolton Station. His brother Herbert was present when he was killed, by a bullet which hit him in the head.

Greenhalgh, Thomas –

Eldest son of Albert and Mary Ellen Greenhalgh, of 3, Albert Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Formerly worked as a platelayer for the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company. Three times previously wounded; also served in Palestine.

Greenwood, Edwin –

Son of George Albert and Emily Ann Greenwood, of 27, Church Road, Walkden, Lancashire. Formerly employed by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company as a goods department clerk at Oldham Road, Manchester. Enlisted February 1917. Posted missing 06/05/1918 and subsequently presumed killed when “evidently drowned with a dozen or more other men between Ayr and Belfast.” Reported as Gunner in the F&WJ. Body not recovered for burial.

Gregson, Edward –

Son of James and Honor Gregson, of 33, Horrocks Street, Ivy Road, Smithills, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly a labourer at Horwich Loco Works. Enlisted September 1914. Wounded 10/08/1916 at The Somme.
