Son of Joseph and Ann Royse, of 11, Grecian Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted October 1914. Hit by a shell and killed almost instantly.

Smedley, John –

Husband of Mrs. Smalley, of Venture Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Previously served with the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment in the South African Campaign. Reported missing since October 1914 and subsequently declared as presumed to have been killed at that time.

Son of William Sumner; husband of Sarah Sumner, of 50, Holden Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted August 1916.

Taylor, Thomas William –

Husband of Eliza Taylor, of 16, Channing Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted February 1915. Died in hospital at Oxford from wounds.

Tomlinson, John Richard –

Son of Joshua Tomlinson, of Bolton; husband of Annie Tomlinson, of 15, Finney Street, Great Lever, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly Private 5453, 5th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.

Tonge, James Fray –

Son of Peter and Mary Ellen Tonge, of 30, Tildsley Street, Bolton, Lancashire, and formerly of 168, High Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly Private TR4/30266, 51st Bn., Cheshire Regiment. Reported missing since 10/04/1918 and subsequently confirmed by the Germans to have killed by a gunshot wound in abdomen.

Varle, Albert Edward –

Son of the late John Varle and of Catherine Varle (nee Fraser) of 3, Pike Road, Bolton, Lancashire; brother of John William Varle, of 24, Peabody Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Worked as a postman for a time in Bolton. Enlisted December 1905. Formerly 1813, Northumberland Fusiliers.

Husband of Mrs. Walker, of 375, Lever Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted January 1917. Shoty by a sniper. His brother, George Walker, also fell.

Son of Samuel and Martha Ellen Wallwork, of 93, Bull Lane, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly 4890, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.

Watson, John –

Son of Peter and Katherine Watson; husband of Mrs. Watson, of 48, Reservoir Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Previously served in the South African Campaign with the 5th Lancashire Fusiliers. Enlisted September 1914. Wounded 17/07/1916.

Westby, William –

Although he had been living in the United States for seven years before the war, his wife and child were residing at 2, Maybank Street, Bolton, Lancashire at the time of his death. Brother of Peter Westby, who also died in service.

Williams, Edwin –

Brother of Private Harold Williams and Mrs. Tyson, of 7, Milford Street, Great Lever, Bolton, Lancashire. Of Leach Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Enlisted October 1915 on his 19th birthday. Formerly 12269, Black Watch (Royal Highlanders). Twice wounded, and posted missing since 30/11/1917.

Son of John and Jane Ann Wilson, of Bolton, Lancashire; husband of Bertha Wilson, of 45, Grecian Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Reported missing since 15/11/1916 and subsequently presumed killed.

Wood, Sam –

Brother of Mr. R. W. Wood, of 33, Leach Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Four times wounded and then captured. Died whilst prisoner of war.
