Second son of Reuben Brotherton, of 10, Hastings Road, Bolton, Lancashire, and formerly of 31, Queensgate, Bolton, Lancashire. An old boy of Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Previously in the employ of Messrs. Tillotson and Son, Ltd. Formerly Sergeant 45574, Motor Machine Gun Brigade., Canadian Machine Gun Corps. Commissioned 1916. During the operations in the vicinity of Passchendale, on the night of 29/10/1917, this officer was leading his Battery to a new position, when he was instantly killed by enemy shell fire. Step-brother of Tom Lever.

A member of the Bolton Corps of the St. John Ambulance Brigade. Enlisted August 1915. Died at Gosport (Haslar) Hospital from an attack of pneumonia. Memorial on family grave in Edgworth Congregational Churchyard.

Died from pneumonia at Prees Heath Military Hospital, Whitchurch. Recorded as 4th Bn. on SDGW.
