Originally enlisted January 1915 as Rifleman R/9686, 9th Bn., King’s Royal Rifle Corps, wounded in the right hand 14/08/1915 and discharged 20/04/1916 as no longer physically fit. Re-enlisted and caught aged 25 as an absentee from France since 10/09/1918 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 12/09/1918 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/29).
