Previously a tram conductor in Bolton. Served as Police Constable 86 of the Bolton County Borough Police from 07/08/1913 until enlistment for military service. (Bolton Archives: ABJ/22/225). Killed by a shell splinter. His brother Vincent, of Dent, Yorkshire, served as Gunner 74415, Royal Garrison Artillery and survived.
