Previous service as Private 1206, 5th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, from 22/06/1910 until discharged to enlist in the Royal Garrison Artillery as Gunner 35884 from 04/09/1911 to early 1914 when he deserted at Jamaica. Killed at the second battle of Marne. Re-interred in St. Peter’s (Halliwell) Churchyard 11/02/1922. Another brother served with the Royal Air Force in France.
