Caught as Private 1955 aged 19 and 21 on multiple occasions as an absentee from the 2nd, 3rd, and 20th Bns., Manchester Regiment., and later as Private 260264, 67th Training Reserve Bn. appearing before Bolton Magistrates to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/26 and JBO/1/28). Wounded seriously in the left hand September 1916.
