Husband of Margaret Ellen Jones, of 25, Gilnow Grove, Bolton, Lancashire, and formerly of 5, Washington Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Previously served 3 years (time-expired) 2nd Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Discharged due to displaced cartilage in left knee following accidental injury 02/12/1915 at Heliopolis, Egypt.

Jones (Hardman), John Philip –

NOTE:- Served as HARDMAN. Son of Elizabeth Ducker (formerly Jones), and the late Thomas Jones; brother of Benjamin Robert Jones, of 1, Rochester Avenue, Liverpool Street, Salford, Lancashire. Previously served four years in the Lancashire Fusiliers Territorials.

Son of Jeffrey William and Matilda Kay, of 118, Victoria Road, Marrickville, New South Wales, Australia and formerly of 2, Faversham Road, Sydenham, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

Kay, Sydney Deakin –

Son of Charles and Agnes Kay, of “Bethgeba”, 42, Dowling Street, Arncliffe, New South Wales, Australia. Formerly 20th Bn., Australian Imperial Forces. Previously reported wounded in action 02/04/1917, subsequently confirmed killed in action.

Kelly, Patrick –

Son of Patrick and Margaret Kelly, of 87, Clammerclough Road, Farnworth, Lancashire. Formerly 35th Bn., Australian Imperial F. Reported missing in France since 09/04/1918 and confirmed prisoner of war in German hands. Subsequently reported to have died whilst prisoner of war at Lamsdorf, Germany.

Son of George Henry Lancaster, of 78, Daisy Street, Daubhill, Bolton, Lancashire, and the late Charlotte Lancaster (formerly Jones nee Ainsworth). Formerly of 4, Blackwood Street, Great Lever, Bolton, Lancashire.

Lawn, James Harold –

Son of James Richard and Kate Hughes Lawn, of Bolton, Lancashire; husband of Amy Lawn, of 46, Attfield Street, Freemantle, Western Australia, Australia. Died at King George’s Hospital, London, of pneumonia.

Leach, William –

Youngest son of Mr. W. H. Leach, of 185, Derby Street, Daubhill, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted August 1914. Formerly 10th Bn., Australian Infantry. In hospital with wounds in London November 1916.

Leslie (Donellan), Joseph (Frank) –

NOTE:- Known as Frank DONELLAN and as Joseph LESLIE. Husband of Lucy Donellan, of Bolton, Lancashire, estranged for 10 years. Brother-in-law of Bert Waller and brother of Mrs. Waller, of “Gibside”, West Street, Crewe, Cheshire. Enlisted 06/07/1915 at Melbourne into 21st Bn., Australian Imperial Forces, and discharged 23/08/1915 for misconduct having been drunk in camp and having brought spiritous liquor into the camp (per details contained within service records under Private 4578. Also previously numbered 4279. Re-enlisted “owing to loss of original attestation papers,” having previously re-enlisted 27/08/1915 at Melbourne as Private 4536 in 14th Bn., and later reported absent without leave since 07/03/1916 from Broadmeadows Camp, and declared a illegally absent and a Deserter 19/04/1916. On that enlistment birthplace was given as Bolton, Lancashire.

Lloyd, Thomas Bennett –

Son of Mrs. Alice Lloyd, of 9, Longley Road, Walkden, Lancashire. And the late Mr. Abraham Lloyd; husband of Ethel Seed Lloyd (nee Redford), of Gladesville Road, Hunters Hill, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Previous service 6 years with the Duke of Lancaster’s Own Yeomanry. Wounded 16/05/1915 in the Dardanelles by a bullet in his left groin and treated at Deaconesses Hospital, Alexandria. Promoted Captain 10/11/1915.

Lomax, Harry –

Husband of Elise May Lomax (nee Warner); brother of Arthur Lomax, of 8, Castle Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted under the name Jack Spencer having previously been an Officer’s Cook 2nd Class at the Royal Australian Naval College, from whence he deserted 02/03/1915. Previously 5th Bn., Australian Imperial Forces. Wounded by gunshot in right thigh September 1918.

Lomax, Henry –

Second son of Robert and Elizabeth Lomax (nee Smith), of 29, Malvern Avenue, Bolton, Lancashire, and formerly of 4, Birmingham Street, Bolton, Lancashire. An old boy of Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Originally reported as missing, subsequently confirmed killed. Brother Robert served in the Royal Army Medical Corps. Also recorded as Harry.

Maris, John –

Son of Henry Ellis and Elizabeth Maris, of 3, Powell Street, Darwen, Lancashire. Of 292, Bondi Road, Bondi, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Formerly 36th Bn., and 9th Light Trench Mortar Battery, Australian Imperial Forces.

Mayor, Arthur –

Son of Walter and Margaret Ann Mayor, of Norwood Road, Belmont, Western Australia, Australia. Formerly 28th Bn., Australian Imperial Forces.

McCabe, William –

Son of William Francis and Eliza McCabe; husband of Mary McCabe, of Burke Street, Ipswich, South Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Formerly 15th Bn., Australian Imperial Forces. Wounded 11/08/1916 with shellshock. Reported missing on 13/09/1917 and declared to have been killed on 12/10/1917 by a court of enquiry held 11/03/1918.

McCarthy, Edward –

Son of Edward McCarthy, of 91, Chapel Alley, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly Private 1542, 23rd Bn., Australian Infantry. Caught aged 26 as an absentee from Lark Hill Camp, Salisbury Plain since 05/09/1917 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 10/09/1917 to be sent back to his unit under escort. Son of Robert and Mary Jane McComb (nee Clarkson), of Rivington, Sydney Street, Eagle Junction, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia; grandson of Mr. Joseph Clarkson, formerly of Horwich, Lancashire. Formerly Private / Sapper 3571, Australian Army Field Ambulance, and Field Company Engineers. Served at Egypt and Gallipoli before training for commission in England and being commissioned Second Lieutenant 20/10/1916, 2nd Divisional Engineers, Australian Army Engineers. Promoted Lieutenant 29/04/1917. Seconded as Flying Officer (Pilot) 17/01/1918, Australian Flying Corps.
