Of 41, Isabel Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly Private 7578, 4th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Caught as an absentee from Oswestry since 13/02/1917 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 22/02/1917 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/27).

Son of John and Alice Stones; husband of Sarah Jane Berry (formerly Stones), of 10, Walkden Road, Walkden, Lancashire. Formerly of 5, Manchester Road West, Little Hulton, Lancashire. Enlisted January 1915.

Stopforth, John Samuel –

Husband of Mary Stopforth, of 19, Hanover Street, Moor Lane, Bolton, Lancashire. Previously served (time-expired) in 1st Bn., Royal Scots. Enlisted 19/08/1914 as Private 4657, 3rd Bn., Lancashire Fusiliers at Bury and discharged for misconduct 11/12/1914. Re-enlisted at Bolton into the 3rd Bn., Border Regiment. in December 1914. Caught aged 39 as an absentee from The Castle, Carlisle since 06/01/1915, and as a deserter from Shoeburyness since 14/09/1915. Appeared before Bolton Magistrates 08/01/1915 and 05/10/1915 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/25). Wounded at the Dardanelles and the Somme. Also served in the 1st, 2nd and 6th Bns. of the Borders.
