Caught on multiple occasions as a deserter / absentee and appeared before Bolton Magistrates to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/26). Died by drowning en-route to an Eastern theatre of war.

Son of Thomas and Mary McGregor, of 6, Top’o’ th’ Wallsuches, Horwich, Lancashire. Youngest of three brothers in the Army. Enlisted March 1917. Posted missing since 22/10/1917 and subsequently confirmed killed.
