Barton, John Willie –

Son of Peter and Martha Annie Barton, of 8, Beech Street, North Shore, Blackpool, Lancashire.

Bashall, Richard –

Son of John and Elizabeth Bashall, of 357 Leigh Road, Daisy Hill, Westhoughton, Lancashire. Initially reported missing since 04/04/1918, subsequently reported to have died in the field hospital at Provins on 29/04/1918. However, he was also reported to have sent a postcard 10/04/1918 stating he was a prisoner of war in Germany and was Limburg.

Bayley, George –

Son of G. and Ellen Bayley, of 1, Back Major Street, Ashton Old Road, Ardwick, Lancashire.

Bayley, Harold –

Son of William Ernest and Elizabeth Ellen Bayley, of 101, Adelaide Street, Daubhill, Bolton, Lancashire. A member of the Bolton Yeomanry before the war. Formerly Trooper 4381, Duke of Lancaster’s Own Yeomanry. Caught aged 21 as an absentee from Kendal since 23/01/1916 and appeared before Bolton Magistrates 03/02/1916 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/26). Attached Machine Gun Corps. Killed by shrapnel. Sometimes also recorded as Harold BAILEY.

Bennett, John –

Son of John and Christiana Bennett (nee Alton), of Alexandra Road, Horwich, Lancashire.

Bennett, Reginald George –

Son of Rev. George Bennett of the Skelmersdale Congregational Church; nephew of Thomas and Charlotte Clare, of 28, Worsley Road, Farnworth, Lancashire. Commissioned from the ranks 1916. Killed leading his men in action near Poelcapelle.

Berry, George –

Son of George and Sarah Berry, husband of Ellen (Blair), 107 Sunnyside Street, Salford, Lancashire. George was a velvet dresser before he enlisted in November 1915 and embarked for France March 1916. Promoted to Lance Corporal March 1917. He was wounded 11/04/1917 (gunshot wound left leg) at the Battle of Arras and was wounded again at Passendale 13/10/1917 (shrapnel right leg). George died the same day at Dozinghem casualty clearing station and was buried there.

Berry, John –

Son of Elizabeth Berry, of 47, Broad Walk, Hindley’s Estate, Westhoughton, Lancashire, and the late Thomas Berry, formerly of 21, Grundy Street, Westhoughton, Lancashire.

Bevan, William –

Of 116, Crompton Road, Prestolee, Lancashire. Enlisted aged 18 and served through the South African Campaign and also in India. Formerly employed at Walker’s Tannery, Bolton. A reservist, he was mobilised on the outbreak of war in August 1914. Captured prisoner of war during the fighting on the Marne in October 1914.

Birchall, Ralph –

Son of Mary Ellen Birchall, of 11, Ashworth Street, Farnworth, Lancashire.
