Son of Thomas and Margaret Shipperbottom, of 67, Arkwright Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Died of wounds as a prisoner of war in Verdun Hospital, Hanover, Germany.

Of 44, Pen Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted September 1915.

Silcock, Edward –

Son of Thomas and Elizabeth Silcock, of 27, Southfield Drive, Westhoughton, Lancashire. Wounded May 1915, and brought to hospital at Sheffield. Posted missing since 10/04/1918 and subsequently confirmed prisoner of war, later confirmed died.

Simm, John –

Of 166, Bridgewater Street, Hindley, Lancashire. Enlisted October 1915.

Sinker, Herbert –

Eldest son of William Henry and Mary Ann Sinker, of 386, Halliwell Road, Bolton, Lancashire. Served 17 years in the Army, including the South African Campaign. Captured prisoner of war at Mons and held at Sennelager bei Paderborn, Germany. Died as a result of bronchitis and heart trouble whilst a prisoner.

Slater, Elias –

Son of Thomas and Sarah Ann Slater, of Gorse Lane, Mawdesley, Lancashire. Enlisted February 1916. Formerly Private 4229, 1st/4th Bn., King’s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment. Reported missing since 28/03/1918 and subsequently confirmed prisoner of war at Limburg, Germany. Reported as Ellis in BJ&G.

Smallwood, Thomas –

Of Watts Street, Horwich, Lancashire. Formerly employed in the Boiler Shop of the Horwich Loco Works. Enlisted June 1915. His father and brother also served.

Smedley, William –

Son of Richard and Susannah Smedley, of 11, Delta Street, Bolton, Lancashire; brother of Alice Roberts (nee Smedley), of 10, Davenport Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted May 1915. Formerly Private 4057, 4th/5th Bn., King’s Own Royal Lancashire Regiment. Admitted 24/11/1917 to the 6th General Hospital, France, seriously ill with a chest wound.

Son of Joseph Smethurst, of 59, Old Lane, Little Hulton, Lancashire, and formerly of 1, Hope Hey, Little Hulton, Lancashire. Formerly 6th Bn., King’s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.

Younger of two sons of Mr. and Mrs. John Smith, of 29, Cooper Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted August 1915. Missing since 01/07/1916, and subsequently regarded to have died on that date. Brother William served with the Border Regiment.

Widowed husband of the late Mrs. Smith, of 120, Chaddock Lane, Boothstown, Lancashire. Enlisted July 1915. Left seven young orphaned children.
