White, James Arthur –

Son of Mr. and Mrs. White, of 6, Peter Street, Bolton, Lancashire; brother of Mrs. T. W. Dixon, whose husband also fell. Reported missing since 08/05/1915, and subsequently presumed killed.

Whitehorn, Henry –

Husband of Mrs. Whitehorn, of 14, Halliwell Road, Bolton, Lancashire. Served twelve years in the Berkshire Regiment. including in the South African Campaign. Formerly resided at Hampson Street in Horwich, Lancashire. Enlisted November 1914. Reported missing since 08/05/1915 and subsequently presumed killed.

Whittle, Herbert –

Son of John and Emma Whittle, of 21, Pen Street, Bolton, Lancashire; husband of Mrs. Whittle, of Top-o’th’-Brow, Harwood, Turton, Lancashire and formerly of 61, Riding Gate, Harwood, Turton, Lancashire. Formerly Private 4016, 4th Bn., King’s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment. Died at the General Hospital in Etaples.

Whittle, Thomas –

Son of Mr. and Mrs. Mary E. Whittle, of 23, John Taylor Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted May 1915. Formerly Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. A brother also served, and another brother lost a leg in the War.

Whitworth, William –

Son of Mrs. Betsy Whitworth, of 81, Normanby Street, Morris Green Lane, Daubhill, Bolton, Lancashire, and formerly of 22, Eustace Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Service number recorded as 30200 on SDGW. One of five men killed instantly when a shell fell directly in the trench.

Willcock, Dudley James –

Of 12, Bury New Road, Bolton, Lancashire. Caught aged 31 as an absentee from Tidworth since 20/05/1915 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 25/05/1915 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/26)

Williams, E –

Son of Mrs. Williams, of 22, Willows Lane, Bolton, Lancashire. Invalided with frostbite in 1915 and gassed at Ypres. Wounded again 01/07/1916 with concussion and shellshock. Three brothers also served.
