Previously enlisted at Manchester 03/09/1914 as Rifleman S/4, 7th Bn., Rifle Brigade, and discharged medically unfit 29/09/1914. Formerly Private 17289, 19th Bn., Lancashire Fusiliers. Suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to little finger of right hand 15/05/1916.
