Son of Robert and Sarah Jane Lewtas (nee Langston), of 22, Fern Street, Deane Road, Bolton, Lancashire, and formerly of 39, Shipton Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted at Bolton 27/05/1915 as Privare 5026, 4th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment and at Bolton 18/08/1915 as Private 26123, South Lancashire Regiment. Discharged from both as under age 23/11/1915. Subsequently re-enlisted in Lancashire Fusiliers.

Liles, John James –

Of 7, Isabel Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Reported wounded July 1916. Caught aged 22 as an absentee from Withernsea since 11/04/1918 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 15/04/1918 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/29).
