Downs, Herbert –

Son of Mr. Thomas Downs, of 126, Hall Lane, Farnworth, Lancashire. Enlisted aged 24 in February 1916. Reported missing since 23/03/1918 and subsequently confirmed prisoner of war. St. Gregory’s R.C. Church, Farnworth.

Of 10, Walter Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Caught aged 44 as an absentee from Prees Heath, Whitchurch since 12/04/1918 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 15/04/1918 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/29).
