Caught aged 21 as an absentee from Knowsley Park Camp, Prescott since 11/09/1917 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 27/09/1917 to be sent back to his unit under escort. Husband of Ada Barlow (nee Atherton), of 89, Lever Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly acting Bombardier 1604, 6th Battery, 2nd Welsh Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. Corresponded with the BJ&G as “a lonely Bolton lad.” Served as a signaller. Commissioned as Second Lieutenant to the Lancashire Fusiliers 28 August 1917.
