Herbert, Hugh –

Husband of Martha Herbert (nee Cousins), of 82, Fletcher Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Previously served as Company Sergeant Major Hugh MATTHEWS, 3993, 1st Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, having enlisted at Liverpool 28/05/1893. Served in the East Indies, Ceylon, and the South African Campaign. He corrected his records to Hugh HERBERT during service. Discharged 27/05/1914 as time expired after 21 years service. Re-enlisted giving address as Fletcher Street Barracks in June 1914 as Company Sergeant Major 2043, 5th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Twice wounded in 1916. Discharged 27/05/1919 totalling 26 years service. Died aged 82 years at 2 Longworth Bank, Edgworth, Lancashire on 21/01/1950 having resided at The Range Headquarters, Edgworth.
