Formerly Private, 2nd/5th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Commissioned from Private, gazetted to Second Lieutenant. Appointed temporary Lieutenant. Appointed temporary Captain (July 1916). Wounded by gunshot in both legs on 04/03/1917 and admitted to hospital in Boulogne.
