Son of John and Mary A. Hird, of 753, Bury Road, Breightmet, Bolton, Lancashire; husband of Elizabeth Hird (nee Rothwell), of 20, Hind Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly 8109, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Died 22/08/1918 on the SS Palmella when it was torpedoed by German submarine en-route to Portugal.

Hirst, Frederick William –

Husband of Annie Hirst, of 23, Vincent Street, Higher Broughton, Salford, Lancashire. Formerly 20756, Training Reserve Bn.

Hitchcock, Herbert James –

Son of Sergeant Major Thomas and Fanny Hitchcock, of 40, Bury New Road, Bolton, Lancashire. Reported wounded July 1916.

Hitchins, Charles J –

Formerly West Kent Regiment. Took command of 2nd/5th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment August 1916.

Hoare, Alan Brodie –

Younest son of the late Edward Brodie Hoare and of Katharine Hoare; husband of Audrey Lois Hoare (nee Collier), of 64, Napier Court, Hurlingham, London. Of 98, Thicketford Road, Bolton, Lancashire. A member of the Bleacher’s Association Limited, he was associated with the management of the Firwood Bleachworks and Dunscar Bleachworks. Commissioned 07/12/1914.

Hodges, Edwin Alfred –

Son of Ernest Albert and Mary Ellen Hodges, of Bolton, Lancashire; husband of Alice Hodges (nee Ackers), of 8, Mooney Street, Bolton, Lancashire, and formerly of 65, Division Street, Great Lever, Bolton, Lancashire. Mobilised for service 12/02/1917 as Private 7056, 1st/4th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Formerly Private 235096, 3rd/5th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Reported missing since 03/06/1917 and subsequently on 20/03/1918 presumed killed.

Hodges, William Edward –

Of 25, Hulton Lane, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted June 1915. Formerly Private 5091, 1st/5th Bn., and 29541, 8th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.

Hodgetts, Sydney –

Of 12, Eagle Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Caught aged 20 as an absentee from Heaton Park since 25/03/1918 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 26/03/1918 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/29).

Hodgins, Thomas –

Of 15, George Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Caught aged 19 as Private 45337 of the Royal Army Medical Corps as an absentee from Llandindrod Wells since 02/04/1915 and later from the 10th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment at Prescot since 06/03/1917. Appeared before Bolton Magistrates 08/04/1915 and 16/03/1917 and each time to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/26 & JBO/1/28).
