Oakes, John –

Son of John and Hannah Oakes, of 111, Church Road, Kearsley, Lancashire. An old boy of Farnworth Grammar School. Killed when shot in the neck whilst on sentry duty near Houplines. Memorial in Farnworth (St. John) Churchyard.

Oakes, Richard –

Son of Mrs. Martha Oakes, of 15, Oak Street, Cannon Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted November 1914. Brother Jack served in France.

Oakes, Arnold –

Son of Richard Herbert Harrison (stepfather) and Mary Hannah Harrison (formerly Oakes, nee Markland), of 689, Blackburn Road, Astley Bridge, Bolton, Lancashire, and the late George Henry Oakes. Enlisted September 1914. Wounded 06/09/1916. Killed by a piece of shell.

Of 33, Back Coe Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted June 1915. Caught as an absentee from 5th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment at Oswestry since 23/05/1916 and from 42nd Provision Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment at Blackpool since 23/12/1916. Aappeared before Bolton Magistrates 02/06/1916 and 08/01/1917 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/27).

Son of John and Elizabeth O’Connor, of Bolton, Lancashire; husband of Hilda O’Connor, of Bolton, Lancashire.

Of 22, Shuttle Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Caught aged 34 as an absentee from Seaford, Sussex since 09/09/1915 appearing before Bolton Magistrates Court 06/11/1915 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/26).

Oddie, James –

Youngest son of Mr. Henry Oddie, of Ramwell’s Farm, Bromley Cross, Turton, Lancashire. Enlisted May 1916. Killed when a bomb accidentally exploded whilst he was carrying them to the trench.

Son of William and Mary A. Oddie, of 1, Colville Street, Burnley, Lancashire. Formerly 4707, East Lancashire Regiment.

Oddie, William –

Son of Mrs. Oddie, of 7, Hardy Mill, Harwood, Turton, Lancashire. Killed when buried by the bursting of a German shell on the trench parapet.
