Bennett, Thomas –

Husband of Miriam Pearson (formerly Bennett), of 7, Bolton’s Court, Preston, Lancashire, and formerly of 178, Sandy Lane, Hindley, Lancashire, and 8, Kerfoot Row, Castle Hill, Hindley, Lancashire. He became time-expired in June 1916 but extended his service.

Son of William Bennett, of Manchester, Lancashire; husband of Mrs. Mary Ellen Kelly (formerly Bennett), of 16, Annie Street, Great Lever, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly of 43, Victoria Street, Moses Gate, Farnworth, Lancashire; 10, Gleave Street, Bolton, Lancashire; and 14, Back All Saints Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly 3rd Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Caught on multiple occasions as an absentee from his units and appeared each time before Bolton Magistrates to be sent back to his units under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/26 & JBO/1/27). Bentham, Harold –

Son of Squire and Mary Alice Bentham, of 18, St. James Street, New Bury, Farnworth, Lancashire. Formerly worked as a conductor on the South Lancashire Tramways. Enlisted September 1914. Attached 9th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Died in hospital in France from appendicitis and pneumonia. Memorial in Farnworth (St. John’s) Churchyard.

Bentham, John –

Of 6, Abernethy Street, Horwich, Lancashire. Formerly employed as a fireman at the Horwich Loco Works. Formerly Private 278, 1st/4th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Wounded 15/06/1915 at Festubert. Died from influenza whilst prisoner of war.

Son of the late Thomas and Annie Bentley. Of 42, Rose Street, Bolton, Lancashire.

Bentley, William –

Of 53, Drummond Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted January 1915. Caught aged 39 as an absentee from North Camp, Aldershot since 11/06/1915 and appeared before Bolton Magistrates 19/06/1915 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/26)
