Son of Harry and Emma Popplewell, of 24, Tildsley Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted November 1914. Formerly 2918, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Reported taken prisoner of war November 1917, and subsequently to have died of wounds in Germany.

Enlisted 1st Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Transferred for a time whilst recovering from sickness to the 2nd Garrison Bn, Suffolk Regiment. as Private 35933. Resumed duties with Loyal North Lancashire Regiment and promoted. Posted missing 30/11/1917 and subsequently presumed killed.
