Powell, George Allan –

Only son of Mrs Powell, of 102, Ellesmere Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Enlisted April 1915. Mistakenly reported killed and subsequently confirmed wounded by gunshot in the back and received treatment at Abbotswood Hospital, Stow-on-the-Wold, Gloucestershire.

Of 75, Commission Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted March 1915. Formerly Private 4081 / 241840, 1st/5th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Caught aged 29 as an absentee from Weeton Camp since 08/10/1915 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 14/10/1915 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/26). Prisoner of war at Dulmen, Germany.

Son of Mrs. Powell, of 44, Keswick Street, Bolton, Lancashire; husband of M. E. Powell, of 30, Darwin Place, Halliwell Road, Bolton, Lancashire and formerly of 43, Pleasant Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Worked for the London and North Western Railway Company as a Checker at Bolton, Lancashire. Six years’ experience with the Liverpool Militia.

Caught multiple times as an absentee appearing before Bolton Magistrates to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/25 & JBO/1/29). Reported as missing since 09/08/1916. Listed as F Powell in BJ&G.

Son of Samuel William and Jemima Powell, of 40, South View, Belmont, Lancashire. Of 352, St. Helens Road, Bolton, Lancashire, and later of 7, The Parade, Pinner, Middlesex. Formerly Sergeant 14320, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Reported missing and prisoner of war. Commissioned 15/07/1920. His brother James fell and brother Henry wounded.
