Son of Catherine Short, of 82, Leicester Street, Bolton, Lancashire, and the late Edward John Short. Previously enlisted in the Seaforth Highlanders and was discharged after eleven days. Subsequently re-enlisted March 1915, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.

Son of Harry and Hannah Showell; husband of Nellie Showell, of Bourne, Lincolnshire.

Showell, Thomas –

Of 8, Leicester Street, Horwich, Lancashire. Enlisted 1914. Twice wounded. Prisoner of war in Germany.

Shrigly, John –

Of 236, Tempest Road, Lostock, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted January 1915.

Shurmer, Albert –

Of 64, Cross Ormrod Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Caught aged 30 as an absentee from Fulwood Barracks, Preston since 16/05/1918 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 23/05/1918 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/29).

Siddell, R –

Badly injured his thigh in August 1915, and invalided to the Blackpool Convalescent Camp for recovery in January 1916.

Previously enlisted 24/05/1915 as Private 19334, 3rd Bn., South Lancashire Regiment as of 104, St. Helena Road, Bolton, Lancashire, and discharged as medically unfit 03/07/1915. Re-enlisted 06/12/1915 as of 8, Chapel Alley, Bolton, Lancashire. Of 13, Merehall Street, Bolton, Lancashire.
