Caught aged 19 as an absentee from the 1st/12th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment at Lytham since 28/01/1916 and 05/02/1916 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 31/01/1916 and 07/02/1916 to be sent back to his unit under escort.
