Previously served with the South Lancashire Regiment, discharged as time-expired in 1906. Promoted Corporal in September 1914, and reverted to Private at own request December1914. Formerly 3rd Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.

Died aged 53 in November 1922, and interred in Bolton (Heaton) .
