Caught aged 42 as a deserter from Cleethorpes since 15/01/1915 appearing before Bolton Magistrates for this, and for a breach of the peace on from 04/04/1914 (dismissed – no evidence) on 21/01/1915 to be sent back to his unit under escort. McDonough, James –

Of 39, Sidney Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Caught aged 20 as an absentee from Southport since 23/01/1916 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 27/01/1916 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/26).

Son of Francis and Emma McDougall; husband of Jane McDougall, of 205, Clawes Street, West Gorton, Lancashire.

McGarrey, Edward –

Son of Joseph and the late Bridget McGarrey, of 19, Sandford Street, Salford, Lancashire.

McGee, George –

Son of John and Elizabeth McGee; husband of Alice McGee, of 27, Dudley Street, Higher Broughton, Salford, Lancashire.

McGreal, Robert –

Son of Paul and Kate McGreal, of 33, Barncroft Road, Farnworth, Lancashire. Of 80, King Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Re-enlisted from Special Reserve. Dangerously wounded in the Dardanelles.

McGreaves, Harry Charles –

Son of Charles and Mary Alice McGreaves, of 2, Cobden Street, Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire, and formerly of the Victory district of Bolton, Lancashire.

McGregor, Roy –

Son of Isabella Mary McGregor, of 30, Trevelyan Street, Eccles, Lancashire, and the late Alpine Thomas McGregor. A Sailor.

McGuinness, Thomas –

Caught aged 45 as an absentee from the Interment Camp at Leigh since 10/05/1915 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 11/05/1915 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/26)

McKenna, Maurice –

Son of John P. McKenna and Ann McKenna. Husband of Mrs. McKenna, of 9, Middle Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Completed 12 years’ service in August 1914 and signed on for an additional four years. Wounded 09/06/1915 and died the following day.

McKeown, James –

Son of Mrs. Mary McKeown; husband of Rosalina McKeown, of 27, Chapman Street, Oldham, Lancashire.

McLinden, Henry –

Son of Patrick and Agnes McLinden, of 20, Moncrieffe Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted September 1914 in the Manchester Regiment and went to France in October 1915. He was wounded 01/07/1916 during the Somme offensive. After recovering he was transferred to the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, and was again wounded. Rejoined the Manchesters in 1917, he was attached to the headquarters of the Bn. as a despatch runner, and it was whilst carrying an important despatch he met his death. Prior to enlisting he was employed in the District Goods Superintendent’s Office, Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company’s Station, Bolton. His name is on the Roll of Honour at St. Gregory’s, Farnworth, Lancashire. Listed as Lancashire Fusiliers in the Bolton County Borough Roll of Honour.

Of 86, Trafford Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. St. Gregory’s R.C. Church, Farnworth.

McManus, John –

Son of Mr. and Amy McManus, of 220, Bolton Road, Walkden, Lancashire. Formerly in the employ of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company at Hunts Bank, Manchester. Wounded. Served a period as acting Company Quartermaster Sergeant.
