Son of Joseph and Margaret Ramsden, of 641, Tonge Moor Road, Bolton, Lancashire. Formery Private, 4th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Gazetted Second Lieutenant, Royal Flying Corps in November 1917. Wounded 11/04/1918.

Ranoe (Rance), Frank –

Son of John Charles and Elizabeth Ellen Ranoe (nee Lindsay), of 14, Mount Pleasant Street, Horwich, Lancashire. Formerly an apprentice fitter at the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company’s Horwich Loco Works. Formerly Corporal 1610, 1st/4th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Wounded 15/06/1915 at Festubert. Re-enlisted in Royal Flying Corps 05/12/1915. Transferred to Royal Air Force on formation 01/04/1918. NOTE: also recorded as Frank RANCE.

Formerly Private 3374 / 240887, 5th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, transferred to Royal Flying Corps 10/10/1917, and to Royal Air Force on formation 01/04/1918.

Roberts, Norman –

Formerly Sergeant 106048, Royal Engineers. Commissioned 05/07/1917 to Royal Flying Corps. Transferred to Royal Air Force 01/04/1918.

Robinson, Thomas Sprowell –

Only son of Mary A. Robinson, of Orchard Farm, Carleton, Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire, and the late Thomas Robinson, formerly of “Somerville”, Deane, Bolton, Lancashire, and formerly of Petrograd, Russia. Formerly 113964, Royal Army Medical Corps, and formerly 51835, 6th Reserve Bn., Lancashire Fusiliers. Died from injuries sustained in an aeroplane accident. Recorded under Lancashire Fusiliers on SDGW, and Royal Air Force on CWGC.

Rogerson, Harry –

Son of Henry and Mary Louisa Rogerson, of 46, Ashworth Lane, Astley Bridge, Bolton, Lancashire. An old boy of Bolton Grammar School (1906-1910). Formerly Second Lieutenant, 1st/4th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment; Formerly Royal Flying Corps, transferred to Royal Air Force 01/04/1918. Wounded 02/01/1916. Reported missing June 1917 and subsequently confirmed captured prisoner of war.

Rothwell, James –

Son of Thomas and Mary Alice Rothwell, of Church Road, Halliwell, Bolton, Lancashire; uncle of Annie Rothwell, of 2, Chapman Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly Royal Flying Corps, transferred to Royal Air Force on formation 01/04/1917. Suffered tuberculosis of the lung resulting in discharge. Died 11/03/1924 aged 39 and interred 14/03/1924 at St. Peter’s (Halliwell) Churchyard.
