Son of Charles Frederick and Kathleen Bates, of 2, Canning Street, Bolton, Lancashire; husband of Gertrude Louisa Bates, of 65, Crumpsall Street, Bolton, Lancashire, and formerly of 3, Blackbank Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly employed as a conductor on the Bolton Corporation Tramways. Enlisted April 1915.

Battersby, Abel –

Husband of Bertha Battersby (formerly Fallows), of 35, Randal Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Previous service with 6th Bn., Lancashire Fusiliers, purchased discharge. Formerly 1967, King’s Royal Rifle Corps. Reported missing 28/04/1918 and later confirmed prisoner of war in Germany.
